Garden Update

I've been doing a few jobs today so we've got more done for when Mum and Dad come to visit! First I've been painting the skirting boards and door frames in the hallway, next job in the hallway is to paint the walls. We're just giving it a quick paint so it looks fine for now then we will come back to it another time to sort the walls our or put some new wallpaper up. Then we need to sort the tiled floor out!

Then I did a bit in the garden. We've got quite a lot of daffodils coming up now, only one is flowering though so far! We bought a welly plant pot the other day so I've put a strawberry plant in it we had from last year! I also decided I wanted to outline the border with something and as we had some bricks left over from knocking out the fireplace I pulled some out of our pile for the skip! I'm going to dig them into the ground so they are level with it and I think it looks quite nice! Nathan's she'd is going at the back of the garden so I'm not sure how far back to go with them yet!

Flowers and Frames

We've got a frame for our elephants in Aberstwyth photo and it's up on the wall now! We've got a variety of other silver frames and we're going to have lots of photos up on one wall.

I got a lovely bunch of flowers from the people at work when I left to start my new job! They look lovely in the lounge.

We've got some flowers coming up on the garden! I think they must be bulbs I planted because they're in the border I dug. I thought I just done tulips and daffodils though! Dad informs me that they're crocuses!

I've planted some sweet pea seeds and some aubergene seeds today in a tray so hopefully they will grow and we can put them out in the garden!

Making A Cushion

I had some fabric left over from the chair at my dressing table so I decided to make some cushions! I thought it would be easier to get the "no sew" iron on hem. I used a tutorial online and it actually worked quite well but I did make it a bit too big. I ran out of the hem stuff so only managed to make 1 cushion and do the edges of a second but hopefully I can get more soon! I've put the cushion on the chair in the bedroom. I've also seen some bedding I want to get so of I make a few cushions they can go on the bed.

Dressing Table

I bought this dressing table and chair with my birthday money from the auction surplus shop. It's now finished so here are some photos! The first photo is when it was first delivered.

First I sanded it down, it did have a nice finish but it had some white lines in the grain so I wanted to put a stain on it.

It also had a dark mark on the top on one side which wouldn't sand out. In the end I put bleach on it and left it to soak for a few hours. I then had to stain it to get it all one colour again. It's still not perfect but you can't really tell unless you're looking for it.

When I took the fabric off the chair to change it there was horse hair inside it and some shepts wool, I think this means it's pretty old!! I left it in and put an extra layer of padding on top.

Here is the finished dressing table and chair! I'm really pleased with it and I love the big mirror.

Christmas Presents!

We've been very lucky this year and have been given money towards things for the house. We also had. £50 John Lewis voucher still to spend from a house warming present! Here are some of the things we have got for the house...

We got the little bronze bowls from John Lewis in the sale. The tapas dishes we got last year but we're saving them for when we moved.

We got a new set of plates with a silver line round from Morrisons and some new cuttlery! Our old plates were getting chipped and the cuttlery was mine from university so we needed some new ones.

We have also got a new mirror for the lounge and a mantle clock! The mirror is going to go on the wall at some point but is just resting in the fireplace for now.

We got a new door mT from John Lewis in the sale! The old one was minging!

When we took the christmas tree down the lounge was looking very bare so we have also now got "Alfred" the house plant! It was half price in home base and we wanted a big plant for the house. We've got a big silver plant pot that my cherry tree was in so I think it's going to go in that. It's going to be in the lounge but not sure where yet!

The main thing we have bought is a dehumidifier! The house has been high on the humidity detector and has been around 70% most days. We've had the dehumidifier on and it's between 50-65% now! It's taken a good few litres of water out of the air in the few days we have had it and the windows don't have condensation on them anymore.

We still need a few blinds for the lounge (we've still got chipboard up at the windows at night), kitchen and the little front room so I think we will get some with the rest of our christmas money. Sorting out the back bedroom is going to be our next big priority. We need to sort everything out that is in there and then decorate it! Then mum and dad can finally come to stay!

Also one last photo as we've got a little robin now coming to the bird feeder so I thought mum would be pleased!

Thank you all very much!! It's a great help to us getting everything sorted and were getting there slowly!!
